Don't Fumble Your Authority

Don't Fumble Your Authority

I'm sitting in a chair at church, looking up at the stage.

There's a guest pastor this week, and I'm curious about what message he'll share.

But not even 30 seconds in, I've lost interest.

It wasn't something he said. It wasn't his tone of voice. It wasn't the story he was telling.

It wasn't because of how he looked, how he dressed, or the gestures he made.

If it was none of that, then what was it?

He walked off the stage and began preaching from the floor. At the same level the churchgoers were seated.

Now, why would this cause me to lose interest?

Before I reveal my reasoning, I want you to think about your experience.

Has your opinion of someone changed in the blink of an eye, all because of one little thing they did?

Maybe it was a comment that made you question everything. Maybe it was how they came dressed to the event.

It doesn't take much to ruin the goodwill you have, which makes it all the more valuable to be intentional about everything you do.

So, why did the pastor walking down to the floor cause me to lose interest?

Because anyone can be down on the floor. Only people with authority can be up on the stage.

This pastor fumbled his authority just by where he chose to speak.

Now I'm questioning the strength of his message. Now I'm questioning how he's received at his home church. Now I'm questioning his authority.

Why should this matter to you?

Because it's not just what you say that matters. How you share your message, where you share your message, and when you share your message all matter.

And if you don't take that into account, then your results will be below your goal.

Ok, if all those things matter, then what can you do about it?

Consciously choose how, when, and where your message is shared. You can't leave this up to chance. At least, not unless you want random results.

If you're given a stage, stay on the stage. No one goes to an event to see "just another" anything. So, don't make yourself look like one.

Pitch your products or services during a seminar or a webinar, rather than a post on social media.

Use direct mail, rather than social media, in order to stand out and be unique.

These are just a few of the methods I talk about in my upcoming book, Maximum Authority Marketing.

Keep your eyes on your inbox for the launch date. This book will change how you view marketing forever. It'll make your business life so much simpler, you'll wonder why these secrets had been kept from you.

That's all for now.
